Question 7

I believe I have improved as I have mastered photo shop after doing my preliminary task. I did my preliminary task on publisher so when it came to doing my music magazine it was a new software so I had to adapt quickly so that I did'nt fall behind. I quickly adapted to photoshop and I am much more confident on it now, and I feel like I have improved a lot from my preliminary task as not only does photo shop offer much better software and effects but I was aware of what to use and how to apply it to my magazine.
I have made an animoto showing my improvements throughout the tasks so far.

Question 6

I have learnt how to take a variety of pictures and pick the best one out of them pages of my magazine. I had to decide which of my pictures would suit which cover, from main, contents and double page.I had to make sure the levels on the picture were the right colour and would be able to match the page perfectly, I also learnt how to edit my photos to enable the photo looked perfect, I learnt how to crop out the background of my picture to enable the background image didn't disturb my magazine. I learnt a lot, the biggest thing I have learnt is how to use photoshop in general, after making my magazine covers I am much more comfortable with. I have learnt the conventions of a magazine and know what it takes to make a magazine, a magazine. I now know how to write articles and make it suitable for a magazine, and link it with a music genre. I used facebook to access pictures that my friend on that we had took, but I already had knowledge on how to use that software. I used the models camera, which i was aware of how to use and I also used the college computers to put together my magazine.

Question 5

Both models in these two magazines share a similar pose which attracts the target auidences' eye. The pose shows confidence and strength this is what will mainly attract the audience, as this is what the younger generation aspires for. I used the effect in my magazine by enlarging the letter where the paragraph starts helps to guide the reader to where they need to start reading. I used this in my double page spread too, I did it for the same purpose, so the audience were aware to start reading here. My magazine doesn't feature a fancy font as the one from the Florence Welch but it does the same as I have made the first letter much bigger than the other letters. I think this effect makes my magazine look very professional and helps it to stand out. I believe the way I have lay out my interview with the colour combinated text, to show who is who through our attracts audience by showing to them who is who and not making it to hard for them to interpret that.

Question 4

I think the audience for my media product, being my magazine, MU would be around 15-20 year olds, I think this is the best age group for my magazine, a group who would listen to the type of music which would convey to the type of magazine I have produced. I think this age group is a good one to base my magazine around as there is a lot of people within this aged group that enjoy listening to music that is alternated around different genres. The music in which is produced appeals to this age group, the artist is only a few years above the target group also so that helps attract her audiences.

This is an image of my ideal target audience, a young sociable girl, who is most likey to be intrested in my magazine. Her tastes in life would be to aspire celebritys, keeping up with the trends of everything popluar. This girl would like to spend a lot of her time with her friends, and just having a good time but enjoying long bus journeys listening to her favourite type of music. She would spend a lot of her time getting up to date with celebrity life and gossip. She looks liek she would listen to any genre of music, depending on her mood for example, if she was on the bus home, alone. A nice Adele song, but getting ready to go out with her friends, a Rhianna song. She gives the typical teenage ideologies, which is what my magazine appeals too.

Question 3

I think NME relates to my magazine as it is a music magazine aswell it is also what mine is all auidence appealing magazine. I think this magazine links to NME, Robert Tame, the publisher of NME started a website alongside Steve Sutherland. I believe Robert Tame would help my magazine as he has had such great success with his own magazine, he could help me in other areas, in selling my magazine, he will know the right techniques such as producing a website and things to help promote my product online. I believe me and Robert Tame have worked the same way by researchin what public want from a magazine and how good we think it  would sell for after being published.

Question 1

This is the nine frames that I selected from my front cover, contents and double page spread.
Looking at the masthead 'MU' I think that it is very similar to other popular music magazines such Q and NME.One of the main similarity's is that the words are both short which makes the name of the magazine stand out to the readers. I also noticed while doing my research that NME sometimes place the masthead over the top of the models head which is where I got my inspiration from by doing this it creates importance to the magazine and gives it a significance. The font I used for the masthead is called Trajan Pro, this font creates a very bold and eye catching look to the magazine. I used many effects on my masthead so that the readers will look at it straight away. I used the colour gold first for my masthead but now I have changed it as it didn't stand out after I changed my main image. So now MU is in a grey/silver colour but it still has the same effects. I used this colour as it is representable to both males and females. The mise-en-scene of the images feature Emila in strong poses,  which links to the story within the magazine. These poses also show her change in attitude, how she is become stronger in herself and in the other confident in her own body. The pictures are all different, the one featured on my front cover shows Emila looking into the camera standing with her arms by her side, this shows a serious side to her. This magazine shows a normal girl who isn't a glamorous model and fake, just a normal girl who is making something of herself. Readers will relate and sympathise with her inspiration in life. Her clothes are up to date and something the target audiences can aspire too. In other photos, Emila is still in casual up to date clothing, showing that she is much like the target audience of the magazine. The picture that is different is the image of Emila at the awards ceremony, where she is an elegant dress but this dress is still up to date and very inspirational to her fans. In these images, there are no props either. For the title on my double page spread, Emila Fox is in a fancy font which is French Script MT, I find this a very femimne font and that it bring elegance to the story. All the other fonts on the double page spread are California FB, which is a simple, recognisable font which consists throughout. I used colour codes to define who was the interviewer and Emila. The written content on my double page spread consists of  a mixture between an interview and an article. I think its good that I have done this as I can get detail in through my article then abit of imangination with the interview. Ive set it into collums, where there is a little intro where Emila talks, then following that is a starter than two questions from the interview. I did start with more of an article but then I decided to change it to abit both. The font of this text is Califorina FB, I think it is a formal looking text but it is also very reconsible and not too much to read. I made the background colour white so the black and red text would stand out agaisnt it. My magazine suggests a mass genre, appealing to many people as it isn't just appealing to one auidence. Young people are intrested in many genres these days, its clear by the way the artist is represented that she appeals to many auidences and isn't appealing to just one genre of auidence.

Model, Costume, Make up, Props

This is my model - Danielle Darbyshire

These the clothes that Danielle will be featured in, in this magazine. Casual look on the two left pictures and the very end photo is Danielle in her prom dress so it gives her very formal look which she will be at an awards night.

Her makeup for the magazine are much like these photos, natural but not too natural. Much like the targart auidence, young adults. These are the different make ups danielle will be wearing in the photos.

Question 2

This split screen shows a picture from my magazine, which features on my front cover and a front cover which was one of my inspirational texts. The similiarties are both models are pulling a serious face, but they both look great at the same time showing confidence to promote it to the target audience, they both appear in a mid shot. The magazine is more of a mid/close up wheras my magaaine is a mid shot showing more of her body. Both models are looking straight at the camera however the model in my magazine on a slight angle but they both target to their auidences which is young adults. Both models blends in with the background, my model is wearing a black and white shirt and a black skirt. And the model from the magazine is wearing a wearing a white blazor and seems a purple blazor, so they both have similar clothing on. Although they have many similiarities, they have different hair colour. My model has bright red hair with olive skin and the model has black hair with quite dark skin also. They have different styles with their hairs aswell, my model has her hair down with a full fringe and the other has all her hair mainly off her face and up. The lighting on both images are bright and emphasies their facial features and makes them stand out, both images show confidence and strong attitude towards their target auidence, to show people look up to them and aspire them.

Inspirational Double Page Spreads

From this double page spread, I love the layout: how the main image is on half of the page with a black and white effect. I love the pose of Lady Gaga, how she is looking into the camera giving the audience a connection to her. If I could steal this I would but i know it would be difficult to get my person to pull of the same pose as Lady Gaga. The huge red 'l' on the page , standing for the first letter of the artists name stands out a lot, if I could I would steal this and use it on my magazine. I like how at every beginning of a paragraph there is a bigger letter for the starting word, it stands out a lot and gives guidance to the audience as to where the new paragraph is starting. I also love the way her name is at the top of the right hand page of the magazine, it shows to the readers who is featuring in the magazine.

From this magazine cover of Florence, from Florence and the Machine. I like the way her pictures features through the two pages and her pose within the magazine, it shows strength and beauty. I love how part of her lyric is featured on the page 'got the love'. The huge 'USA' in the background which is then followed by 'got the love' it is clear that this double page spread is on how the 'USA got the love' for Florence. Like the other Double Page Spread for beginning of the paragraph, they have made the first letter much larger and in a fancy font so that it stands out to the reader and guides them to the start of the paragraph. I love the use of colour in this double page spread, how the Florence is in all black, but sat on a USA flag which is red and white, her hair makes this stand out. The colour scheme works very well as the text used in this double page spread is grey and black and the background being a dark white/grey colour.
This magazine, is my final inspiration as I love the way the whole of the right hand page is a collage of Adele, featuring in various poses, which are mostly funny and are her pulling faces. It brings a sense a nature to the artist, and makes the reader aware that she is just a normal person. I love the way this magazine is set out, the use of colour between the interviewer and Adele. I also love the way they have pulled a significant quote and placed it in the middle of the text, in an italic font. I love the way, the colour red is worked around parts of the text and a prop that Adele holds in her collage. If I could steal something form this magazine I would pull a signifcant quote and use a collage if I could get my model to take enough photos.

Another Image

I am going to put this either on my double page spread or on my front page as it needs to be a brighter photo so it stands out. I will edit photo as the flash is too bright for the picture.

Flat Plan & Rationale For Contents Page

Rationale

For my contents page, I'm going to use the colours, white, gold, red and black. The reason I am using these colours are as they are my colour scheme. Black will stand out in the main heading which is 'contents' also I will put a black border around my pictures just so my images stand out more. The background will be a simple white colour, I am doing this so that the other colours stand out against it and white goes with everything. I will use the colour gold for the main story, so it stands out to the reader which is the most important. Other parts of writing will be in red as it part of the colour scheme. I am using two images, the biggest image will be my main image which is the most important story issued in the magazine, anything smaller will lack in importance in comparison with the biggest image. For my images I will have a Mid-shot of the cover model,  posing with a smile. A simple but cheeky pose, that's opening to the audience, giving them a bond with the readers. Other image will either be a close up or a long shot of another model for another story, according to the story I will change the pose. For example if it is a serious story, I will have the model looking down to the left. But if it is a happy story then I will have a eye level angle shot to show a bond with the reader to look like your eyes is the camera. For my text usage, I am going to use teaser lines which will issue in the sell lines. I will use a common, well known font. So that it isn't too complicated for the audience and is a mature look to my magazine. I am not going to place text in a diagonal so that my magazine has a mature appeal to it, although it is still appealing to teenagers and above. I want to achieve the mature look to my magazine.

Inspirational Contents Page's

This contents page stood out for me as the first thing that my eyes were drawn too was the models legs, I like how the model is positioned in this page, its unique and stands out a lot. I also noticed the way the word 'contents' was positioned and how it is broken down into three words. The fonts used on the sub headings for example 'features', the font used for those are very good and stand out to me. The colour at the top of the page is very dark then when onto the model at the bottom of the page it lightens up, as if a spotlight is on her. I think this is done on purpose so that the readers notice her first and know who the main focus of the page is about. If I could steal anything from this contents page would be the way 'contents' is set out, its very original.

The thing I like about this contents page, is how they have used many images and less text, in the same time way it has enough text. The images range from different sizes which i also like, as you can identify easily the main story by the bigger story and the less important ones being the smaller images. The magazine has used a highlighting tool, highlighting important things in the contents page. For example: 'contents' has a black background with contents in yellow, not only making the word stand out but showing to the reader what page they are reading. Another example of the highlighting tool would be used on the page numbers, used exactly the same way as the contents text is. If I could steal anything for my contents page,I would steal the the high lighting effect.
The thing I like about this magazine is the colours used, the bright red and white stand out together and make the magazine eye catching to the reader. The red parts of text either highlight importance or a underline a little sub story. Other colours used are black and white, they are used for text and for the reference numbers. The layout of this magazine is eye catching, it is set over a double page spread which isn't common in contents pages and showing that the magazine has a lot of important information in it. From the images used, the sizes help reflect their importance in the magazine. For example, the image of the cartoon character, 44. That is the largest image on the contents page, so this would reflect to me that there is a big story or something important about that character issuing in the magazine. I like the text used in the Q magazine, its simple but stands out a lot with the help of the colour scheme. If I could steal anything from the Q magazine it would the use of colours and the sizing of images to help show importance.

First Draft For My Magazine

Feedback from the class

This is the feedback from the class, which was anonymous. I'm going to listen to the feedback and apply them to my magazine to improve and make it better. I found over all comments consisted of the magazine was 'too dark' and to make 'it brighter'. A few commented that the colour scheme I used was 'nice' and make the 'text stand out'. Others commented that I should move the bar code to the bottom of the page. They commented on the image, that it needs to be 'lightened', they also commented on the position of the cover model. With effects to these comments: I am going to lighten up the background or even make it a light grey effect, as this will make the text stand out. I am also going to work with the bar code and see how it looks like at the bottom of the page.

I am going to correct all the stuff people has commented on and I am happy with the overall come back.

Inspirational Magazine Covers

I like this cover of Bazaar as its a very girly cover. The colour themes on the magazine are light pinks and whites which alternatively makes the cover model stand out against the soft colours of the text. The title is in a black font which stands out very well against everything on the cover. If I could stealk anything from this magazine cover, I would steal the colour themes and how the mid shot stands out so well agaisnt them. I also like the way the model is looking to the side in a mid shot and not looking directly into the camera. I would also steal the font, as it is very simple and stood out alot.

What I like about 'the fashion issue' magazine is how the photograph of the model is edited so well, it looks amazing. This photo is a mid shot to close up shot. I love the colours on this magazine, the mode is in a white jumper and the font sizes are white and light pink which go perfectly and stand out. It all goes together so well and looks outstanding. This magazine gives me a lot of insperation for my magazine. Id like a shot like this one on 'the fashion issue'. If I could steal something from this issue it would be ohw the photo is edited and the text is postiened around the image. I like how the text is so light but stands out so much.

I love the way the model is positioned in this magazine, she is postioned infront of the text in a mid shot. The text is in an all black font with spots of colour around which stands out a lot against the dark text. The background colour is white so everything stands out agaisnt it. The colourful parts on this article stand out a lot and it draws the readers attention to them, this is what I would steal if I could.I think if I use dark colours but bright colours for the important little information then it will catch the eye of more readers. I also love how there is only maily three colours so thats what makes it stand out so much.

I adore this cover, what I love most about this magazine is the shot of the model, Adele. Q magazine has a mid shot of the model. The magazine consists of red, white, black and gold. These colours go really well with another and dont clash. The background colour is whie so all the bold colours stand out, the models hair covers most of her clothing but you can see her top which is purple but this doesnt clash agaisnt any of the colours. Thats what I love about this magazine nothing is wrong even thought there are a few differnt colours going on but not too much. It is well thought out and prepard and a true inspiration to me.

I really like this magazine, its unique and inspiring. The close up shot of the singer, Beth Ditto on the cover of 'Dazed & Confused'. The text on the magazine cover stands out and goes well with the colour theme which is black, red and white. The photograph of the model on the cover is very unqiue and I like it a lot. I like how different it is to any other magazine cover I've come across. I love how she has the paper lips for her own lips, it looks amazing. Its so inspiring and I aspire for my magazine to be something outstanding like this, something differnt from any others.

Extention Question
What messages from the magazines does it give to the auidence's. How is it constructed? What does it suggest about the cover model and magazine?

The messages from the magazines are all the same, they try to sell their magazines to their readers and appeal to the auidences by using the colours and the models. For example Magazine three would stand out very well on a shelf because of its bold colouring texts. In the same way, the girly magazine's stand out as the readers would want to look at their stroys or their photos within that magazine. Magazine one suggests that the cover model is a lot of fun and very happy. Magazine two is more of a fashion magazine, from the cover it seems a very serious and professional magazine with serious shots. Magazine four and five also seem serouis but also a fun cover which will include a lot on information and background on the artists.

Mood Boards

I used this images in for my mood boards because they are mostly live pictures or posed pictures. I would like to include live performances to see the band in action, relatively in my contents page. I would like to feature un-signed band in my magazine, like sunderland bands I am aware of and people will be familiar with for example, Frankie and the heartstrings. The poses are very powerful and eye catching. I like the use of light in the kings of Leon photograph it gives the cover model power and makes the model stand out.

I was drawn to the masthead 'SPIN' because it is bright coloured and stands out against the white background. The fonts are easy to read and the colours used are dark red and a lighter red giving a contrast of colours. This helps catch the readers attention. Although I wasn't drawn to the top right cover, only by the cover model. The colours are boring all greys and one part of text being white.  The Amy Winehouse cover is inviting and includes retro clothing showing her originality which makes her stand out from the crowd. The Amy Winehouse covers both feature the same colour schemes, her costume is original. This is what I'd like for my cover model, for the clothing to be original and totally different so that it stands from the crowd.
